Trump Jr.: “The Memo Might Be True, But That’s Irrelevant Since It’s Illegal To Wiretap The President”

Donald Trump Jr. on Wednesday sent out a tweet that seemed to confirm the contents of former FBI Director James Comey’s memo claiming that President Donald Trump had asked Comey to stop investigating former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn. The trouble for Trump Jr. began after he retweeted a message from Fox News’ Geraldo Rivera saying President Trump “hoping James Comey cuts Mike Flynn some slack because he is a ‘good man’ is not close to obstruction.” “Truth,” Trump Jr. wrote in his endorsement of the tweet. The trouble for Trump Jr. here is that he appears to be endorsing the contents of Comey’s reported memo while trying to put a positive spin on it.

In an interview with portal KnowMyRepublican.com, President Trump’s son did his best to make it look like his tweet was “irrelevant.” “Look, what the president does when he’s doing his job is not something I’m familiar with, regardless of the fact that we’re related,” Trump Jr. said. “And if you think about it, it makes perfect sense. He’s currently performing the most important duties of any job in the world, and despite what some may think, my father is just a man at the end of the day. He’s prone to making mistakes just like the rest of us and whatever he may or may not have said in that memo is between him and James Comey, whom I have the utmost respect for, by the way. That being said, my tweet is completely irrelevant in this whole situation.”

He continued, “In case anyone’s forgotten, I am not at liberty to comment on what goes on with my father, neither personally nor professionally, as he is no longer in any way associated with his former company. Furthermore, I will say that regardless of whether or not the memo in question exists and whether or not what is said about it is true, at the end of the day it really makes no difference. It’s also irrelevant at this point, so I think we should just drop this subject and move on to bigger and more important problems.” Asked to elaborate, Trump Jr. explained that the question of the memo’s validity “pales in comparison” to the fact that the public learned about it because “someone decided to break the law and wiretap the President of the United States.” “Someone could very easily go to jail because of that – and they most likely will,” he added.

“I get that people for some reason have a genuine problem with my father being at the head of the country, but I still can’t wrap my head around why that is. I’m honestly shocked at what’s being said about him having Alzheimer’s and being demented. That’s beyond freedom of speech, it’s flat out insulting. And now he’s being wiretapped as well? Seriously, that’s not legal. My father may be a lot of things, but he’s not a criminal. Wiretapping the president of the country is against the law and not only will someone answer for it, but anything and everything that was discovered in the process has no value whatsoever and should be considered irrelevant. Hillary Clinton used an entire private email server and dispatched hundreds of thousands of emails, but she never got punished for it. Her only crime was she got caught. But no, let’s all go after Donald Trump for wanting to save a good man from harm. I guess it’s true what they say – no good deed goes unpunished, right?” Trump Jr. concluded.
